Unless you shut yourself away from the world for the entire weekend, you’d be aware that one of the world’s largest music festivals, Coachella, just completed its first round of musical celebrations.

The epic event held in the Californian desert did not fail to disappoint on the lineup front, this year headlined by the likes of AC/DC, Tame Impala, Jack White, Drake, Florence & The Machine, David Guetta not to mention hundreds of other incredible acts we’d happily see on Aussie shores.

With the final night of festivities winding-up at the sunny festival grounds, we decided to piece together a list of all the things everyone is going crazy for at the first weekend of Coachella 2015.

We suggest you have your strongest cure for FOMO on-hand because what you’re about to see may have you booking a last minute flight to LAX.

Madonna Mauled Drake

Fresh from releasing her latest record Rebel Heart, the Queen of Pop Madonna has taken over headlines, whether it be for falling off stages or giving a pretty stressful performance on Jimmy Fallon, Madge knows how to keep her name afloat, and what she did during Drake’s set emphatically exemplifies this.

Surprising audiences, Madonna appeared onstage to perform a couple of her own tunes before the spotlight was cast back on Drake who was sitting in a chair. Madge, in her climactic closer, strut up to Drake and gave him a Madonna-mouthful, mackin’ the rapper, heavy.

Tame Impala Debuted New Music

Aussie psych-rockers, Tame Impala, pretty much refuse to stop touring the international road, leaving in their wake a sea of transfixed fans, and their Friday night set was no exception, surprising many with brand-spankin’ new tunes.

This year has seen the Kevin Parker led five-piece share two new pieces of music since 2012’s stunning Lonerism, the first the encompassing ‘Let It Happen’ and the second, the more funk-laden ”Cause I’m A Man’ both of which were performed live for the first time during their incredible set.

Tyler The Creator Doesn’t Dig Coachella’s VIP

The controversial rapper is gearing-up for his latest record Cherry Bomb to explode, and had a dang good time premiering tracks ‘Deathcamp’ and ‘Fucking Young’ from the forthcoming album, and he also had a ball hurling a few choice words at some of the more premo-paying punters.

Firing some heat at the celebrity-filled VIP tent, Tyler labelled them “boring” and “soft” before unleashing “Y’all the niggas that got money and paid extra. Fuck all y’all, y’all boring. Everybody that’s in the real crowd, though, I fuck with y’all. Y’all gonna have a good time. These motherfuckers too cool.”

Hozier’s Surprise Collaboration Was Beautiful

The Irish singer-songwriter charmed hearts with tunes like ‘Take Me To The Church’, giving the audience the biggest of surprises in announcing the had a special guest itching to get on-stage, the eldest of the Haim sisters. The pair gave a sensual, groovin’ rendition of ‘Jungle Love’ by Morris Day and the Time that sent the crowd bananas, Este exclaiming after the performance “that was so fun, holy shit!” Dig it here:


But The Best Collab Of The Weekend Went To…

Run The Jewels with Zack De La Rocha, Travis Barker and Gangsta Boo.

Yep, to send you into FOMO overdrive, El-P and Killer Mike were joined by a very mixed bag of acts, all delivering one of the most spoken about sets of the entire festival.

De La Rocha joined the duo for that track that he guests on, ‘Close Your Eyes’, whilst the blink-182 drummer manned the stool for ‘All Due Respect’ as Memphis rapper Gangsta Boo killed it on ‘Love Again’. Enjoy.

Shit Got Weird With Father John Misty

We can almost guarantee that nobody expected John Tillman of Father John Misty was going to give one “lucky” punter a lap-dance, but hey, it’s Coachella – anything can happen, and it did.

According to Billboard, Father John Misty needed some help from the crowd to “make a very weird dream come true” which resulted in the folkster bringing a young lass by the name of Amy onto a wicker throne, where “women in pasties, white robes and phallic Eyes Wide Shut masks” surrounded her whilst Misty serenaded her with a cover Leonard Cohen’s ‘I’m Your Man.’

The Best Things Come In Threes

Three days of music, and three crowned as the coveted “best on ground” from three different countries: the US, the UK and of course, Australia.

Jack White gave what has been heralded as a spell-binding career-spanning epic that included music from The White Stripes, Raconteurs, his solo catalogue as well as covers, too.

The UK’s postergirl of cool, FKA twigs, placed punters under her mysterious and hypnotic spell, generating a mass of positive reviews for her silky-suave performance which is beautifully encompassed in the below vid:

And saving the very best ’til last, our own heroes of rock, AC/DC proved that age has no boundary when it comes to absolutely blowing the minds of music fans.

Hitting the main stage for one of their first performances in six years, the band tore through a 20-track setlist, proving once and for all that they are still the true kings of rock.
