Despite a shocking four live music venues closing in Australia within a month, this week held better news, with the arrival of a fresh home of live music in Sydney, outside the lockout zone, and there’s another reason to celebrate, with a brand-spankin’ new place opening in Victoria.
Blue Note Bistro located on Little Malop Street of Geelong is gearing-up for its grand opening this June, a live music venue providing a point of difference for the coastal city, as the Geelong Advertiser reports.
Owned by local musician, Andy Pobjoy, the establishment will be converted from a Spanish restaurant to a piano bar, open for business on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights and closed on Sundays for private functions and performance practise for local music students.

Said to be inspired by New York jazz holes, the new hotspot is about a 50-person capacity, keeping the vibe nice and intimate, where patrons can feast on tapas and pizza as they relax to music, with the option of requesting tunes by performers.
Speaking on the functionality of the new venue, Pobjoy commented, “We’ll have various theme nights, but one thing is that you can write a request down on a piece of paper and bring it up the piano. Anything from Beyonce to Barry Manilow.”
Pobjoy noted that Blue Note Bistro would more than likely appeal to the 25 and over demographic, squeezing into a market that predominately looks after the younger, more nightclub scene,”there’s a lot for young people to do on the weekends, which often involves lining up outside of Lamby’s or Eureka, but those big nightclub type venues are well catered for in Geelong.”

“The smaller places are the ones that are doing really well like Union St Wine Bar, Pistol Petes and Bar Captain. There’s room for 20 more of these places in Geelong” he said.
Blue Note Bistro piano bar is set to open Queens Birthday weekend in June.
