Australians wave your patriotic flag high – we just claimed back a musical title that has been in the hands of the US, and we couldn’t be happier about it.
Our leading lad of folk rock, James Keogh aka Vance Joy, has just beaten Lady Gaga’s record to take out the crown for the longest-lasting song in the ARIA top 100 singles chart, as Music Feeds reports.
The single that broke the singer-songwriter into universal adoration is ‘Riptide’, which has been swimming around the charts for a staggering 108 weeks, booting Gaga into second position for her tune ‘Poker Face’ and popping Black Eyed Peas’ “genius” lyrical beat, ‘I Got A Feeling’ into third, meaning that Vance Joy now holds the record for the longest running hit ARIA hit, ever.

The Hottest 100 winning song made its debut into the ARIAs in April of 2013, where it has remained, Keogh also edging out contemporary Gotye for his worldwide smash-hit, ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’, which is the second longest Australian charting single.
Since basically taking over radios back in 2013, both Aussies and the world at large have fell in love with the Melbourne artist, one in particular being Taylor Swift, who enlisted has enlisted Vance Joy as a permanent support act on her epic 1989 tour of the world, which is making its stop in Australia this November/December.
This is a commendable effort and we salute Keogh for bringing the title back to Australian shores, and with a hit that’s still so damn infectious, we don’t think anyone will be knocking him off the throne any time soon.
If you’ve somehow not listened to ‘Riptide’ recently – indulge right here:
