The federal government haven’t exactly been making a whole lot of friends in the Australian music industry. It started with cuts to the arts funding budget and then there was that whole thing about independent musicians making $300,000 a year.
All the while, Prime Minister Tony Abbott hasn’t exactly been endearing himself to the Australian people, and that includes members of the Australian music industry, including prominent ones like Aussie rock veteran and serial frontman Tex Perkins.
Speaking recently to Rolling Stone Australia, the Cruel Sea chief shared his less-than-enthusiastic feelings about our unpopular PM, explaining that ol’ Tone’s face is the primary driving force in getting Perkins to swear at his TV.
“The Conservative side of politics has had some cold-hearted tiny-minded arseholes over the years, but there’s never been anyone like our Tony,” Perkins said. “The swear words [I use] are usually euphemisms for some kind of genitalia, ending in ‘unt’ or ‘rick’.”
But as Perkins explained, the disgust the singer feels for Abbott is not confused simply to short exclamations of vulgarity. “I feel physically violated whenever I see him, as if someone has squirted vinegar in my eyes. Hate is not a strong enough word,” he said.
Perkins is hardly the first Australian musician with stern words for the PM. As Tone Deaf recently reported, homegrown sisterly duo The Veronicas issued an open letter to Tony Abbott, urging him to fall on the right side of history regarding gay marriage.
In a video posted to their official Facebook page, sisters Lisa and Jessica Origliasso argued that the PM has “missed the opportunity to become a world revolutionary leader” by not granting equal marriage rights to the gay community.
