One of the most oft-repeated complaints that non-believers have about heavy metal is the fact that you often can’t understand the lyrics. We’re not sure why articulation is such an important factor in music, but our parents seem to place a lot of importance on it.
Brisbane metal outfit Tria Mera recently took to the streets of their hometown to ask random passersby to interpret their vocals and write down what they think they can hear. The results, which you can check out in the video embedded below, are truly hilarious.
“We all sacrifice something. Everyday we get out of bed, go to work, come home and sleep. We continue this cycle until we can’t remember when each day began and for what? We are told what to think, say and do but sometimes it doesn’t sit right,” vocalist Ben Davis told Heavy Mag.
“So we begin questioning and searching for truth. Why do I stay chained to this system? Why do I continually let myself be blinded by convenience? What’s it all for? The clip sort of represents that search for truth in the words and thoughts that are thrown at us.”
“We went out and asked people to interpret what they heard and each person heard something different. We believe that it shows each person’s way of figuring out their own path and ultimately, their own sacrifice, and they also had some fun in doing so!”
