Upcoming indie pop masters Pacific have just recently released their debut self-titled EP and it’s overflowing with the trio’s infectious hooks and forceful rhythms.

After 12 months in the studio jamming through concepts, they’re crafted an impressive five-track introduction to themselves, as the band explained: “We’ve always loved listening to great albums that we connect with on an emotional level. Our goal was to pull our diverse influences together to create something unique and original for us, that will hopefully connect with others”.

To celebrate the release of this impressive EP, the guys have kindly penned a track by track run break down of the record which you can check out along with the stream. Give it a listen and if you like what you’re hearing be sure to visit the band’s Facebook page for more info.

Edge of Nowhere

‘Edge of Nowhere’ is our first single and the opening track on our self-titled EP. It’s probably the most ‘feel good’ song on the record.

Each of us are influenced by different styles of music and I think we enjoyed the result of all of those influences coming together for this song. We wrote the chorus first and the rest of the song took shape very quickly. The song is full of energy and it felt right to make it our opener.

Fade Away

We’d all talked about jamming for some time and when we finally got together for a writing session, ‘Fade Away’ was the first song that we wrote. The song instantly resonated with all of us and developed quite organically. We had a lot of fun in the studio with this one, taking some unorthodox approaches when recording it.

We created the underlying ‘heartbeat’ sound in the intro by recording a laptop bag being slapped on the ground, underneath a piano. It’s an emotive and honest song, recognising that you can’t make it out alive on your own.

Wide Eyes

‘Wide Eyes’ was the hardest song for us to complete on the EP. Callum wrote the song originally with the chorus being quite mellow and stripped back on an acoustic guitar, but we didn’t feel that it had found its sound until Matt bought a fresh perspective to the song with a huge driving beat.

Kieran wrote a killer hook and the track slowly came to life. It’s one of those songs that took a lot of work, but we were so happy when we finally found what it was meant to be and included it in the EP.

Clarity

I think everybody fights their own little battles in life. I was fighting a few of my own when I wrote this. Clarity is a song about believing that there has to be hope and clinging to that belief.

We recorded our whole EP with Chad Blondel at Foxhole Studios. The experience was incredible. They have a beautiful old organ and we were stoked to be able to lay that down on this track. We’re also suckers for those ‘Mumford and Sons’ like harmonies which no doubt inspired what we attempted with the vocals in the bridge.

Driftwood

A few of the tracks on this EP share a theme about life being a journey and trying to find your place in it. Driftwood probably leans down this line lyrically more then any other.

It’s a deeply personal song and we really wanted it to be quite raw musically so that it paired well with the lyric. It was recorded in a big live room and you can really hear the space and subtleties in the mix. To us, it bought cohesiveness to the EP and closed it out nicely.
