Believe it or not, but your parents were young once too. And just like you, they enjoyed getting down and partying, possibly even with some sort of chemical enhancement, though we obviously can’t confirm that and they will almost certainly deny it if you ask them.
If you want proof, the good citizens of reddit recently managed to unearth this incredible doco from the ABC, covering Melbourne’s underground rave scene all the way back in 1997. That’s almost 20 years ago, which is a scary thought if you’re anything like us, i.e. old.
The doco goes behind the scenes of a rave party taking place down on the docks and features interviews with stakeholders and music industry notables from the period, including DJs, promoters, radio hosts, and yes, plenty of punters struggling to look normal on camera.
Of course, being an ABC documentary, they had to get all scientific and well-researched on us and talk to some cultural anthropologist who explains how dancing to tribal rhythms dates back to caveman times, but there’s plenty of cooked units dancing all silly, too.
