It’s Monday afternoon and by now you’re probably over your FOMO, having accepted your ultimate fate and acknowledged that the #GigOfTheCentury happened last night and you missed out on it.

Don’t worry, you’re not alone. We’ve done the math and since Brisbane’s beloved Crowbar actually only fits about 200 people, you’re one of roughly 22,999,800 Australians who was not there.

What did you miss out on? Just performances from Violent Soho, The Smith Street Band, High Tension, Jesse Locke Band, and Joelistics, with all the proceeds going to community station 4ZZZ.

Despite the In Rainbows-like payment model, the gig, which was announced at the last minute via social media yesterday morning, actually managed to raise quite a bit of dosh.

According to triple j, organisers say they managed to raise $3,500 for the station, which was one of the many community radio stations affected by the government’s recent budget cuts.

As per the Federal Budget, Australia’s community radio sector will no longer be receiving the $1.4 million in funding it is normally allocated to help push it into the digital format.

Naturally, the station couldn’t be happier about how the benefit went down.

“We were trying to organise a gig in the 4ZZZ carpark gig, because we love our all ages [shows] but due to the crazy weather – we started talking about back-up plans,” 4ZZZ’s Michelle Brown told triple j.

“At this stage no-one had discussed the possibility of Violent Soho playing.” Soho got on the bill after asking their good mates The Smith Street Band if it would be cool if they played. It was.

Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy? #gigofthecentury #keepcommunityradio
