Arguably one of Australia’s greatest songwriters, not just of the moment, but of all time; Gareth Liddiard of The Drones has recorded a solo album at a breakneck pace and is about to set off around the country at record speed to promote it. The album was recorded in an isolated mansion ‘only’ 30 minutes outside Yass in the New South Wales countryside. Buckled down with only a guitar and a bottle of whisky, Liddiard created “surreal stories” of tightrope walkers, down and outers, suicidal Japanese salarymen and suburban radicals. That’s good enough for the raving fans down at Tone Deaf HQ, but an even better option would be to see it drawn out live:

Strange Tourist is out through Shock Entertainment on October 1.
