‘Deep Space’ is the new one from funk, soul and ska outfit Cheap Fakes, and it’s an absolute brass-fuelled jam.
“Deep Space is an exploration of the polarity that we experience in life,” says Hayden Andrews. “It reflects on the light and shade that makes up our everyday existence. It delves into the struggles we face and the tension and release of life’s many highs and lows.”
The band aren’t afraid to jack up the formula a little, blending the odd element of psychedelia in amongst the usual suspects of funk or ska.
“We experimented with some new sounds and production techniques when recording Deep Space and we put a strong emphasis on capturing the same dynamic energy from our live shows; a feeling of floating free in space, that feeling of freedom that every human being strives for as we try to navigate life in this crazy world of connections, responsibilities, conflicts, joy, love and creativity.”
Having recently played the Woodford Folk Festival, Big Pineapple Festival, Island Vibe, Caloundra Music Festival and Golden Days, as well as supporting Melbourne Ska Orchestra and Cody ChestnuTT, Cheap Fakes are heading out on a big East Coast tour to launch the single – it all kicks off in Brisbane tonight at The Woolly Mammoth.
