The iconic Amoeba Records have sold their Los Angeles store – and it’ll spell the end for the legendary music destination.
A landmark in music around the world, the Sunset Boulevard location has been a must-see location for music fans everywhere since it opened in 2001, but it has now emerged that the building was sold in October 2015 for $34 million to make way for luxury apartments.
Despite the location being sold to developers, Amoeba will stay until the end of their lease, which gives them several years left at their location.
Amoeba have stated that, despite this news, both they and the building’s owner “are open to us potentially staying longer,” and that they are “committed to staying in Hollywood.”
It remains to be seen what will eventually happen to the Sunset Boulevard touchstone, but Amoeba’s two other California locations will remain open.
