‘Girl, You’ll Be A Woman Soon … actually you’re probably in your thirties now and thinking about getting settled down and having kids’. Perhaps best known for their cover of Neil Diamond’s ‘Girl You’ll Be A Woman Soon’ on the Pulp Fiction soundtrack, it’s 15 years since Urge Overkill’s last recording. With only sporadic tours and gigs since, they’ve now announced that they’re putting the finishing touches to a new album that’s been in the works for many years. What’s more, they’ve also put out a new single. In an interview, singer/guitarist Eddie “King” Roeser has excitedly said “This is gonna happen … We are batting around concepts, but yes, there will be an Urge record coming out next year.”
The band — featuring original co-frontman Nash Kato, Roeser, drummer Brian “Bonn” Quast (also of Polvo), and bassist Mike “Hadji” Hodgkiss – have sifted through five years worth of demos to arrive at a 12-song tracklist that they’ll put the finishing touches to by the end of this year and release in Autumn 2011. As a teaser to fans, they’ve released the song ‘Effigy’ from the new album which you can hear or download here.
