Two Aussie bands are competing to take out the top spot on the ARIA Albums chart this week.
King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard’s ninth album Flying Microtonal Banana is set for a top three debut, which will be by far their highest-charting album to date.
The band has only hit the top 50 once before, with last year’s Nonagon Infinity, which reached #19 last May.
Meanwhile The Waifs will be looking for their first #1, with Ironbark. The Perth trio have hit #3 with their 2003 breakthrough Up All Night, and their 2011 set Temptation. They narrowly missed pole position in 2007 with Sun, Dirt, Water, and reached #5 with 2015’s Beautiful You. Hopefully they can snag their first #1 with Ironbark.
Of course, the main challenger for both album comes from Adele, whose 25 album has again launched up the chart, and may upset both Aussie acts by planting itself at #1 – again.
Other albums looking to debut in the top ten this week, include Bardo State by Horrorshow, Gang Signs & Prayer by Stormzy, and Paint by Holy Holy.
