Remember Beatlemania? Of course you don’t, you’re far too young, but you’ve seen the footage of girls (and boys, I s’pose) fainting, clawing, screaming, and otherwise ruining the early Beatles shows, to the extent that they quit playing live in ’66, bunkered down in the studio, and created some of the finest artistic world in the Western world. Thanks, screaming girls (and boys, I s’pose)!
A milder, mostly click-based version of this mania occurred last week when tickets to Paul McCartney’s first Australian tour since his 1993 jaunt supporting Ace of Base (Nah, just kidding, but it was that long ago) went on sale, and were promptly purchased, and resold for silly figures in the thousands of dollars.
Frontier have attempted to kill this secondary market by adding two extra shows, one each in Melbourne and Sydney. Of course, it’s possible these extra shows were always planned, but it’s hard to imagine the touring company thought an old guy singing songs about meter maids, the Soviet Union, and raccoons would shift tickets. What a crazy world.
Tickets go on sale today, from noon AEST for the Melbourne show, and 5pm AEST for the Sydney show. All dates — including the new ones — below this under-rated (if a little sexist) Paul gem.
