With music legends Elton John and Ozzy Osbourne heading into retirement, sending themselves out with lengthy tours, it’s fair to succumb to the cynicism that veteran acts at this point may be bleeding their audiences for what they’re worth as a final mammoth cash grab.
Neil Young, a beacon of individuality and outspokenness amidst industry ingenuity has now called out these so-called “farewell” tours in a recent interview with Rolling Stone
The legendary rock singer-songwriter detailed that he doesn’t plan on retiring until he passes away, with plans to continue releasing and touring with his two bands, The Promise of the Real and Crazy Horse continuing to see fruition.
“When I retire, people will know, because I’ll be dead,” he said. Later, he elaborates, “I’m not gonna say, ‘I’m not coming back.’ What kind of bullshit is that? I could go out and play if I felt like it, but I don’t feel like it.”
“I’ve got a great band. I’ve got two great bands – I’ve got Promise of the Real and Crazy Horse. They’re both great bands and they’re different. But they both can play a lot of shit.”
The legend also shared details surrounding his upcoming science fiction novel, a tale that revolves around “corruption, surveillance, and genetic mutants” which he called “a fuckin’ mess.”
“Right now, I’m not ready to tour right now. I have a funny feeling in my body that I listen to, and it just says no. It will say yes when it’s ready. I’m just listening to the muse, and the muse just says take a break.”
