It’s okay, this common scenario is no longer destined to remain a fantasy, with Melbourne’s Box Hill Institute now offering up the country’s first hip-hop diploma.

As The Music reports, Melbourne’s Box Hill Institute is now taking applications for its Diploma of Music Industry (Specialising in Urban Music) course. Taught by legitimate Aussie hip-hop veterans, including 1200 Techniques’ N’fa Jones, Dave Norris aka. Dizz1 (Roots Manuva, Aloe Blacc), Syrene Favero aka Creamy Spies (Remi, Sampa the Great), Rob Tremlett aka Mantra (Drapht, Urthboy and Illy), this course is the first of its kind in the country.

“Sure, it’s novel, but what exactly do you get out of it?”, we hear you say. Well, the course delivers everything you need to know in regards to curate, grow, and manage your career as an Australian hip-hop artist. With lessons covering techniques such as lyric writing, performing, production, marketing, and publicity, you’ll leave this course with a solid knowledge of every necessary facet of the Aussie music industry.

Taking place over 27 weeks, this course is undoubtedly set to be one of those which we hear about years down the line when Australia’s newest hip-hop sensation will be doing the publicity rounds. “Where did you get your start?”, the interviewers will ask. “Oh, by completing the Diploma of Music Industry (Specialising in Urban Music) at Melbourne’s Box Hill Institute,” will come the reply.
