Music fans are getting all worked up over a vox pop from a US TV news show which appears to show The Velvet Underground’s iconic drummer, Maureen ‘Mo’ Tucker, at a rally in support of the Tea Party. The Tea Party is a movement in the US that is protesting against the US Government’s bailouts of major firms deemed ‘too big to fail’ during the global financial crisis, the economic stimulus package, and universal healthcare.

In the clip on a Georgia TV station WLAB, a woman who looks very much like Mo Tucker has shocked Velvets fans with her outspoken support of the Tea Party. “I’m furious about the way we’re being led towards socialism,” says a Maureen Tucker in the clip. “I’m furious about the incredible waste of money when things that we really need and are important get dropped because there’s no money left.”

Fans and people who have worked with her are engaged in plenty of online debates as to whether it’s her. Her colleagues in the Tea Party may be unamused to discover she used to play drums for a band which was notorious for its odes to transvestites, drugs and bondage. Check out the clip about 2:40 in.
