Adelaide’s finest purveyors of indie-pop, The Montreals, have just delivered their newest single, ‘Y2K’, and it’s everything that you’ve come to expect from this brilliant quartet, and so much more.

Since first bursting onto the scene a couple of years ago with their debut EP, Indigo Club, the group have been kicking goals all over the place, scoring support slots from the likes of Duke Dumont, SAFIA, and Last Dinosaurs, and getting plenty of airplay wherever they go.

With recent singles like ‘deadheads’ and the dreamy ‘Sardines’ scoring plenty of love both here and abroad, much of the music-loving world are turning their attention to this South Aussie group, waiting anxiously to see what they have in store for us next. Now, everyone’s indie-pop prayers have been answered.

Premiering today, ‘Y2K’ is the newest single from the group, mixing in elements of R&B and disco, while delivering plenty of delicious hooks all the way through.

Recorded at a home studio in the Adelaide suburb of Thebarton, mixed by Steve Schram (San Cisco, Paul Kelly), and mastered by Studio 301’s Steve Smart (Vance Joy, British India), ‘Y2K’ sees the group at their breezy, funky best, delivering a eclectically catchy mix of indie-pop that has to be heard to be believed.

“It contains a bunch of weird samples (cc: lazers),” explained the group of the track. “It was a G time weaving lots of subtle nick nacks in the track.”

“Shower thought – what if we all died tomorrow?” asked vocalist and guitarist Stefan. “‘Y2K’ is about wasting all ya time when ain’t got much.”

With the group’s captivating sound turning heads all over the world at the moment, you can be certain that it won’t be too long before we start seeing The Montreals selling out shows and topping festival lineups everywhere they go.
