US police have shot a concertgoer at an Ice Cube concert after he became irate that the show was sold out.

As Fox 5 San Diego reports, the N.W.A. founder was scheduled to perform at the Del Mar Fairgrounds in California on Sunday night when the incident took place.

According to police, 22-year-old Daniel Elizarraras turned up to the venue at around 7pm, only to be told that the show was sold out and that no tickets were available. Following an argument, nearby police reportedly attempted to confront the man about his behaviour.

“He wanted a ticket to this evening’s concert. He was told no more tickets were available. An argument ensued and nearby deputies responded,” said the San Diego Sheriff’s Department in a statement. “The man pulled out a silver plated semi-automatic handgun and fired several shots into a crowded area.”

“Deputies engaged and returned fire.”

Footage of the incident shows the man being told to drop his weapon before police opened fire on him.

Following the shooting, Daniel Elizarraras was taken to a nearby hospital where he was listed in a stable condition, with no one else being injured during the confrontation.

While the concert went ahead as planned, Ice Cube also took to Twitter earlier today to appeal for his fans to leave their weapons at home if they come to see his show.

“I feel bad for the people who left the show, but I totally understand,” he began. “Moral of the story: Come see ya homie Cube…but leave the strap at home.”

The Del Mar Thoroughbred Club also released a statement after the incident, explaining that “As is our special events protocol, substantial law enforcement and private security was on site in anticipation of the event.”

“In light of the circumstances that unfolded involving one individual with a gun, we take consolation in the fact that no patrons, officers or security personnel were injured in the incident.”

While we’ve seen punters take some pretty dangerous items to gigs in the past, here’s a reminder to be a decent human being and not take any sort of weapons when you go to see your favourite artist play live.
