Victorian police are on the search for a man suspected of sexually assaulting a woman at the Melbourne leg of Listen Out on Saturday.
Over the weekend, the 2018 edition of Listen Out kicked off at Melbourne’s Catani Gardens. While police issued a statement explaining they were “pleased” with the crowd at the festival, despite some arrests, it’s now been revealed they’re seeking a man suspected of sexually assaulting a female festivalgoer.
As The Guardian notes, the alleged incident occurred in the mosh pit at the main stage just after 8pm on Saturday night, when an “unknown male approached and began dancing behind” the victim.
“The female tried to move away from him but he has grabbed her by the waist and pulled her toward him,” Victorian police explained in a statement.
“The male then grabbed the victim around the neck and placed his hand inside the victims clothing and sexually assaulted her,” they continued. “The female has managed to elbow the male to his face and left the mosh pit area.”
Police have also released a composite image of the suspect, noting that he is described as being caucasian, with long red hair worn in a bun.
Festival organisers later released a statement on Facebook noting that they’re working with investigators to track down the suspect.
“This behaviour is completely unacceptable,” they explained. “At Listen Out this weekend we are targeting any sexual assault using every means at our disposal including CCTV coverage, customer lists, security and police surveillance.”
“If you witness something at an event, report it immediately to security or police on site.”
Listen Out is set to wrap up this weekend with a pair of shows in Sydney and Brisbane.
