Rekorderlig Sauna Sounds are all about embracing the unique, quirky and innovative – together, we’re presenting some of country’s most trailblazing up and comers, getting them sweaty and ready to show off what makes them so special.

Ignore what those crotchety old naysayers might be trying to tell you: the Australian independent scene is stronger than it has ever been. Artists mixing all different kinds of genres, themselves from all different walks of life, are collaborating and creating, producing complicated, ever-evolving bodies of work in the process.

No longer is the scene dominated by homogeneity; the diversifying power of the internet has given every artist the opportunity to walk their own particular path – and, importantly, reach their listeners while they do so. No more doomed to toil in obscurity, artists are taking real risks, and getting rewarded for doing so.

Heck, look at CLYPSO, a Sydney-based producer and vocalist who has recently been announced for Rekordelig Sauna Sounds, an excellent initiative (check out the video below!) designed to show off the skills of the Australian indie scene. Speaking of which, cause we’re so excited about Rekorderlig Sauna Sounds, we’ve decided to take a look at some of the hottest Aussie acts dominating the scene. Read on, won’t you!

CLYPSO

It was only last year when Sydney-based producer CLYPSO landed on our radar – but what a year it has been. Having first captured our hearts and minds with the killer tune ‘YOLO’, CLYPSO’s profile has seen a meteoric rise. Scoring the honour of being an Unearthed feature artist earlier this year, and supporting the likes of What So Not and PNAU at shows around the country, this musician is well on her way to huge success.

With a genre-defying sound that mixes in old-school vibes with funky beats, and wraps them up in a slick little package, CLYPO is undoubtedly one of the best discoveries to come from Unearthed in quite a while.

All of those talents combine in the below video, a clip of CLYPSO tackling the banging ‘YOLO’ in the sweat confines of a sauna for Rekorderlig Sauna Sounds:

B Wise

When B Wise first arrived with ‘Prince Akeem’ back in 2015, few knew just what the future held for this Sydney artist. In the time since, he’s managed to establish himself as one of the brightest stars in the Aussie hip hop community. With mega cool vibes, and one of the best flows around, B Wise dropped his debut album, Area Famous, earlier this month, and in the time since, it’s already asserted itself as a true contemporary classic.

Sampa The Great

There has been so much written about Sampa The Great ever since she first uploaded her tunes on Unearthed back in 2015. But then again, it’s not particularly hard to see why.  With a mesmerising sound that defies categorisation, Sampa The Great has been winning over the hearts and minds of fans and critics alike, with Birds And The BEE9 winning the Australian Music Prize earlier this year.

UV boi

It was 2014 when Brisbane’s UV boi emerged onto the scene, and the game hasn’t been the same since. With an ability to deliver amazing rhymes over some of the smoothest, most vibrant beats, UV boi is the very definition of an Unearthed success story. While the last little while has been relatively quiet, 2017 saw the release of his Returned Alone EP, making us even more eager for a full-length record sometime soon.

Baro

It’s been four years since Baro first burst onto the scene, and fans have been loving him ever since. Hailing from South-East Melbourne, Baro delivers an electric mix of hip-hop and electronic tunes, delivered with a style that can’t be beat. Baro’s last release was 2017’s Just Problems You Need To Know EP, and ever since it dropped, we’ve been hungry for more of these brilliant tracks.

Jess Kent

Back in 2015, Jess Kent dropped her stunning single ‘Get Down’, and fans went wild for it. In just over a year, she had managed to drop her My Name Is Jess Kent EP, and had even scored a support act for global megastars Coldplay. Having also collaborated with the likes of Paces for the banger ‘1993 (No Chill)’, Kent has shown no signs of slowing down: she recently released her latest single, ‘Girl’, and it’s everything we’ve come to know and love from this exciting muso.

Dylan Joel

Dylan Joel was just 21 years old when he uploaded ‘Levels’ to the web, firmly establishing himself as one of the finest MCs going around. Within a couple of years, he’d supported some huge names on the touring circuit, and dropped his debut record, Authentic Lemonade, in 2015. Following a little bit of time away, Dylan Joel has just returned to the scene, releasing new songs like ‘Run To The River’ and ‘Done Witchu’, and getting us excited for the good things to come.

Ninajirachi

Ninajirachi first caught our attention back in 2016 when she became a finalist for triple j Unearthed High, only to make the finals again the next year – the first artist to do so. While she didn’t take out the prize, the exposure was clearly a blessing, because her career has well and truly taken off since. With festival appearances under her belt, a new single, ‘Pathetic’, dropping recently, and a debut EP, the future is looking incredibly bright for Ninajirachi.

Willaris. K

It was early last year that Willaris. K first captured our imaginations with dark, gorgeous electronic tunes. With a penchant for making some of the most atmospheric and emotive jams out there, Willaris. K delivered his debut EP, Alchemy, earlier this year, getting us keen for the good things to come. With national tour dates constantly selling out, it won’t be long before Willaris. K manages to take the world by storm with his cathartic tracks.

Carmouflage Rose

In the two years since Brisbane’s Carmouflage Rose first rock up to the scene, he’s well and truly made a name for himself thanks to the sheer sonic brilliance he keeps on delivering. Hitting it big with tracks like ‘Late Nights’, it wasn’t long before Carmouflage Rose was wowing audiences at BIGSOUND, and letting everyone know that he had well and truly arrived.

Having earned his stripes as an astonishing live performer, with a string of chart-topping singles behind him, the future is looking very bright for the amazing musician that is Carmouflage Rose.
