This week has seen some pretty amazing additions to the triple j playlist, with plenty of well-deserved Aussie acts getting the recognition they need. Of course, it can’t all be homegrown talent, with lots of amazing international acts getting in on the action as well. With so many brilliant artists and songs floating around the airwaves, it can be a little hard to keep track of what we’ve been listening to over the week.

Well, thanks to our friends over at J Play, we’ve put together this article to make sure you don’t have to worry about not knowing who the most popular artists on triple j are each week any more.

20. The Wombats

One of Australia’s most beloved bands, The Wombats, are already on their way back to play some shows for us next month, but they’ll have some new tunes under the belt as well. Having recently announced an expanded edition of their last album, Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life, the band’s latest single, ‘BEE-STING’, has been doing the rounds on the airwaves in recent weeks to constant acclaim.

19. Tash Sultana

It’s been a long time coming, but Tash Sultana recently released her long-awaited debut album, Flow State, and fans have loved it. Having served as triple j’s feature album, listeners were treated to plenty of previews of this stunning full-length ahead of its release, and it clearly resonated with music lovers around the world, with ‘Free Mind’ currently this week’s 15th most-played track.

18. B Wise

Sydney rapper B Wise has been kicking goals all over the place lately. With his debut album Area Famous being released recently, he’s currently in the middle of a national tour which is seeing him travel all over the country. While none of B Wise’s tracks are in the most-played list this week, he’s been scoring plenty of airplay, with triple j listeners loving his fresh style and vibe.

17. Odesza

Odesza have undoubtedly been one of the most popular acts on triple j this year, with their tunes frequently appearing on this list. However, the duo recently treated fans with a studio version of the live favourite ‘Loyal’, and it’s been one of the most-played tracks in recent weeks. Just wait until they drop a new album, and you won’t be able to escape them for one second.

16. Holy Holy

Acclaimed duo Holy Holy recently returned with their new single ‘Faces’, and triple j listeners are being reminded of why they love these two so much. With a new tour on the way next month, ‘Faces’ is this week’s ninth most-played track, and we’re bound to be hearing plenty more of it.

15. Skegss

Skegss released their long-awaited debut record My Own Mess recently, with triple j giving it the feature album treatment as well. Understandably, fans have been loving this absolute belter of a release, as tracks ‘Smogged Out’ and ‘Stop’ have been scoring endless amounts of love from their dedicated fan, with the latter serving as this week’s tenth most-played track.

14. Alex The Astronaut

Alex The Astronaut has been having a pretty amazing couple of years, but with a stellar spot on triple j’s One Night Stand recently, this brilliant artist has easily made quite a number of new fans. With ‘Waste Of Time’ recently cracking the most-played list, and a new tour set to kick off next month, Alex The Astronaut is about to bring her brilliant tunes to the people once more.

13. Khalid

Khalid’s American Teen was only released back in 2017, but already the young muso is looking ahead to album number two. Having recently released his new jam, ‘Better’, the tune is the eighth most-played track, and it’s set to only go higher.

12. LPX

Lizzy Plapinger rose to fame as the lead vocalist of MS MR, but in recent times she’s become better known as LPX. Having released her debut EP earlier this year, LPX has just unleashed a new single, ‘Might Not Make It Home’. Currently this week’s sixth most-played track, this one is a stunning tune that’s resonating with listeners all over.

11. Stand Atlantic

Sydney trio Stand Atlantic have been ticking all the boxes lately, releasing brilliant pop-punk tunes that have been resonating with their rapidly-growing fanbase. With their single ‘Lavender Bones’ serving as this week’s fifth most-played track, you can be sure you’ll be hearing plenty more from these folks in the future.

10. San Cisco

San Cisco are currently in the middle of a huge tour with Ball Park Music and Ruby Fields, so they decided to give fans a little something extra to scream out from the crowd. Titled ‘When I Dream’, this single is on track to be a big one, currently serving as this week’s fourth most-played tune.

9. Lana Del Rey

Lana Del Rey has revealed she’s got a new album coming next year, and she’s already teasing us with new singles. Titled Norman Fucking Rockwell, her sixth album is set to contain tracks like ‘Venice Bitch’, but it’s ‘Mariners Apartment Complex’ currently winning fans over, serving as this week’s third most-played track.

8. Thundamentals

Just a year after the release of Everyone We Know, Thundamentals are back with their latest record, I Love Songs. An album of love songs above all else, this record sees the group showing off their softer side, while never straying away from that stunning ability to captivate listeners at every turn. With ‘Everybody But You’ currently this week’s seventh most-played track, we reckon this album might end up on a few mixtapes for people’s crushes.

7. GLADES

GLADES have been blowing up over the last year, seeing massive success thanks to their wide array of brilliant tunes. With ‘Eyes Wide Shut’ currently serving as this week’s second most-played track, you can expect to hear even more of GLADES in the future!

6. BROCKHAMPTON

BROCKHAMPTON released their new album, Iridescence, just a while back, and it’s an absolute belter. With the group having just wrapped up an Aussie tour (and filming two music videos here as well), listeners have been loving the vast amount of brilliant tunes this stunning collective have been offering up. Needless to say, there’s a good chance BROCKHAMPTON will be remaining one of the most vital hip-hop groups for quite some time.

5. Eves Karydas

Eves Karydas has been on the scene for a number of years now, and has been delivering the goods ever since she first the airwaves. With singles like ‘Couch’ doing the rounds recently, she’s just announced her debut album, summerskin. While ‘Damn Loyal’ is scoring enough airplay to become the eleventh most-played track this week, you can be sure you’ll be hearing more of Eves Karydas in the future.

4. Methyl Ethel

Methyl Ethel had a pretty stellar 2017, having scored the #4 on the Hottest 100, and receiving plenty of acclaim for the brilliance of their record, Everything Is Forgotten. Now, with the group back on the airwaves thanks to brilliant tracks like ‘Scream Whole’, they’re currently sitting on top of the list of most-played tracks for this week.

3. Middle Kids

Middle Kids are still riding high off the success of their debut album, Lost Friends, earlier this year. With plenty of their tunes still doing the rounds on the triple j airwaves this week, listeners have sure been spoiled when it comes to receiving great tunes from these Sydney musos.

2. Tkay Maidza

Tkay Maidza has had a pretty wild few months, with the release of her latest EP, Last Year Was Weird Vol. 1. Now, this Adelaide muso has been kicking goals all over the place, scoring copious amounts of airplay thanks to tracks like ‘Flexin”. Easily one of the most exciting Aussie artists at the moments, we’re always keen to hear more from Tkay!

1. Tia Gostelow

Tia Gostelow recently dropper her debut album, Thick Skin, and fans have been loving it. Recently serving as triple j’s feature album, Thick Skin is a stunning collection of tracks that showcases Tia Gostelow’s sheer talent as a songwriter and performer. With tracks like ‘Hunger’ having done the rounds recently, you can be sure you’ll be hearing plenty more of this exceptional musician as time goes on.
