Earl Sweatshirt has enlisted the help of some special guests on his forthcoming album, with his parents featuring on one track.

This Friday will see Earl Sweatshirt release his long-awaited third albumSome Rap Songs. The follow-up to 2015’s critically-acclaimed I Don’t Like Shit, I Don’t Go Outside, Earl has already dropped a couple of singles that have been met with a very positive response.

Now, as Exclaim! notes, the tracklist for Some Rap Songs has been released, and it features a few rather special guests.

While tracks like ‘Ontheway!’ and ‘The Mint’ feature guest appearances from the likes of Standing On The Corner and Navy Blue, it’s ‘Playing Possum’ that is attracting the most attention, with guest spots from Earl Sweatshirt’s parents.

Featuring his mother Cheryl Harris and his father, the late South African poet and political activist Keorapetse Kgositsile, the track is undoubtedly shaping up to be one of the most important pieces on the whole record.

As Pitchfork notes, a press release for the new record noted that Earl Sweatshirt and his father were “roughly a month out from from a reunion that would facilitate a long-anticipated conversation” prior to his passing back in January.

“Me and my dad had a relationship that’s not uncommon for people to have with their fathers, which is a non-perfect one,” Earl explained. “Talking to him is symbolic and non-symbolic, but it’s literally closure for my childhood. Not getting to have that moment left me to figure out a lot with my damn self.”

Some Rap Songs is scheduled to be released on Friday, November 30th.
