U2’s manager Paul McGuinness has revealed that the Irish super group’s new album will be ready for release early next year. Songs of Ascent will come out in March or April, with the band’s manager telling The Irish Times that “I would expect a new U2 album sooner than anybody thinks. I would guess early 2011 before the next leg of the American tour which starts in May.”

McGuiness defended suggestions that the band’s last album No Line On The Horizon was a flop, saying that it had sold ‘roughly’ five million copies. Long time producer Steve Lillywhite was also believed to have said that the album ‘didn’t work’, although he later said the comments were ‘inaccurate’. U2’s US tour was postponed earlier this year after Bono hurt his back, but he is expected to get a bit of a tan while touring Oz in December.
