The Killers have just served up their first live performance of new single, ‘Land Of The Free’, on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Back in January, The Killers released their latest single, ‘Land Of The Free’. An expectedly-political number, Brandon Flowers told Zane Lowe it was a song that he felt he needed to write.

“I think it is a very important time right now and ‘enough is enough’ was basically where it comes from, “Flowers explained. “It started in my mind around when Sandy Hook happened and as a father, how that affected me, and then it just started stacking up.”

“It was things like Eric Garner, Trayvon Martin, things like what’s happening at the wall. You know this stuff just didn’t seem to be in harmony with the values that I believe my country was founded on. I would start the song and then I would put it away and say, ‘I’m not the guy to do this.’ Or I would feel inadequate, waiting for … Somebody’s going to write this song.”

“And then it just piled up and I finally just, you know, Las Vegas, Orlando, Parkland and it just kept coming. It was just like I’ve gotta, have to get this out.”

Now, the group have played the song live for the first time, giving it its premiere during their performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Appearing during the show’s broadcast from their hometown of Las Vegas, Brandon Flowers kicked off ‘Land Of The Free’ in solo mode, armed only with a piano.

Before long, the song continues on and a diverse choir joins in to help protest the themes of racism and gun violence mentioned in the track.

As the song nears its end, the remainder of the band join into to bring it to a powerful conclusion that undoubtedly resonated with everyone in attendance.

In related news, Brandon Flowers revealed back in January that The Killers’ new album could potentially see a release in 2019.

“In a perfect world, I could see the end of the year having something,” Flowers explained, “But it’s probably more likely that it would be early 2020.”

In a more recent interview, Flowers noted that the group are trying out some new sounds while they’ve been hard at work in the studio.

“Yeah, we’ve been at it for a few months,” he explained to NME. “The idea is to try and get something that we’re excited about – maybe about song one a week.”

“So far, we’ve hit that target and the list is growing. We’ll take inventory here soon and see what we’ve got.”

While we’re not sure if ‘Land Of The Free’ will make the cut on the new album, we’re certain that by the sounds of it, The Killers already have a lot to say on their upcoming record.
