When they said that Artificial Intelligence was coming for our jobs, we could have never predicted this. A never-ending live stream of death metal generated by AI has been birthed into this world. Singularity is nigh.
The project is the brainchild of musicians and technologists CK Carr and Zack Zukowski of Dadabots. The Dadabots channel has been live streaming the sweet sounds of AI metal for the past month. The program is based on a recurrent neural network. This network identifies patterns in a huge amount of input data (death metal), predicts the most common musical elements and sequences and reproduces them.
The Dadabots will analyze elements of a single artists discography and work from it to create its own music. This particular stream was based on the music of Canadian tech-metal band Archspire. In an interview with Motherboard, Carr revealed that this stream created more stable music than their other projects.
“Most nets we trained made shitty music. Music soup. The songs would destabilize and fall apart. This one was special though. It’s autonomous, running on a Linux server somewhere in South Carolina,” he shared. “You’re hearing everything it makes.”
Carr and Zukowski have shared that their work with Dadabots aims towards “eliminating humans from black metal.” An idea we can get behind.
