In celebration of the band’s 50th anniversary, a new documentary film about seminal rock band Led Zeppelin is in the works.
Directed by Bernard MacMahon (American Epic), the film is the first ever official documentary about the band. The documentary will focus on the band’s evolution and rise to stardom from their inception in 1968; through to their chart domination in 1970 when they knocked the Beatles’ Abbey Road off the No.1 spot on the Billboard charts with Led Zeppelin II.
Told directly from the band’s perspective, the film will feature never-before-scene footage of the band. It will also feature interviews with the three surviving members, Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and John Paul Johns. It has been billed as the “the definitive telling of the birth of the world’s biggest selling rock band.”
“When I saw everything Bernard had done both visually and sonically on the remarkable achievement that is American Epic, I knew he would be qualified to tell our story,” guitarist Jimmy Page shared in a press release.
Frontman Robert Plant echoed this statement, adding “Seeing Will Shade, and so many other important early American musicians brought to life on the big screen in American Epic inspired me to contribute to a very interesting and exciting story.”
The film is currently in post-production and is yet to receive a release date. Per The Hollywood Reporter, it is set to be pitched to the Cannes Film Festival.
