Home-grown alt-rock four-piece The Beautiful Monument have been slowly planning their own Normandy Invasion, declaring Friday, 28th June as the day their planes will fill the sky.

For on that day, the band will be releasing their second record I’m The Reaper. Today, they’ve shared the title track from the record as well as a bunch of Australian tour dates in support.

I’m The Reaper is shaping up to be a hard-hitting and deeply thoughtful release as we can see in ‘Reaper’.

To craft the jam, frontwoman Lizi Blanco tapped into a very personal experience, that being the loss of a dear friend. The song explores the harsh reality and the cold finality of death and how once death touches you, nothing is ever, really, the same again.

Of the inspiration behind the song, Lizi recalls “I’d never experienced loss until the 3rd of November 2016. I lost one of my closest friends, my future housemate and our manager. I never learnt true heartbreak until that day. My world stopped in its tracks.

“It felt like a sick dream. All of a sudden it hit me that I would never get to speak to him again, I would never see that proud dad look on his face when he saw us girls doing our thing on stage. I miss him a lot and two years on I still think about him every day and talk about him every chance I get.”

To tell the story, The Beautiful Monument invoked their penchant for pensive and intimate verses woven within sprawling and expansive choruses, testament to the sonic alchemy used to create the greater release.

The record will be out via Greyscale Records, a huge feat for the ensemble, who you can catch live and in the flesh at one of the below shows.
