Since January, Kanye West has been hosting weekly Sunday Service sessions — bringing the good word of Jesus to hypebaes everywhere. This past weekend saw Kanye and his choir reimagine two classic Nirvana tracks as worship songs.
Kanye’s choir performed seminal Nevermind tracks ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ and ‘Come As You Are’, with lyrics tweaked to serve their message. “Now’s the time / Hurry up / The choice is yours / Don’t be late / Just confess / He’ll do the rest / Christ is here / Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah” the choir sung in the tune of “Come As You Are.” They also changed the chorus of ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit,’ to “Let your light shine, it’s contagious!” You can check out footage of the service below.

Kanye West has previously worn his affection for Nirvana and Kurt Cobain on his sleeve. Last year, on their collaborative EP Kids See Ghosts, West and Kid Cudi sampled Kurt Cobain track ‘Burn The Rain’.
‘Burn The Rain’ was a home recording made by the Nirvana frontman in the 90s, it was featured on the Montage of Heck collection in 2015. That same year, West rocked a distressed shirt emblazoned with Cobain’s face.
In other news, it was recently revealed that Kanye West is planning to make a biopic about his life, and he’s tapped an unorthodox actor to tackle the lead role.
In an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live last week, comedian and Vice Principals star Danny McBride revealed that West had visited him in Charleston, South Carolina to discuss the film.
“He had an idea for a project, which I think is a pretty brilliant idea. He wanted to do a movie about the story of his life, and he wanted me to play him,” McBride shared. “So I thought it was a cool enough idea to be like, ‘Yeah, I’d love to hang out and talk about it.’ So, he came down [to Charleston], we hung out, went out on a boat, and just talked.”
