In 2007, the internet was set ablaze with the satire stylings of Youtube comedian MC Devvo. MC Devvo, alongside his collaborator David Firth (Salad Fingers) captured the hearts of youth everywhere.

MC Devvo’s routine saw him lean heavily into the Chav trope; rapping about popping pills, doing meth and sinking tinnies. You may recall his work on tracks ‘Crystal Meffin’ and ‘Donny Soldier’.

After a short, yet fruitful career as a beloved ASBO caricature, MC Devvo hung up his hat in favour of becoming Christian Webb, a primary school teacher.

Unfortunately for Webb, the legacy of Devvo was not forgotten. In December last year, fellow staff members at King Edwards Primary School in Doncaster discovered his peppered past as a foul-mouthed comedian and promptly gave him the sack. Parents were only made aware of the reason for his dismissal last week.

“He seemed a normal, genuine teacher – I was shocked to learn what he’d done. Clearly not enough background checks were done by the school,” one parent told The Sun. “It’s not appropriate at all for kids to be taught with someone making those sorts of videos, this is a serious safeguarding issue.”

Whilst another added, “Everyone always said he was a brilliant teacher and I can see why people will stick up for him, but at the end of the day you wouldn’t want to have Ali G as your kid’s teacher.”

I beg to differ, at the end of the day I would be thrilled to have Ali G as my child’s teacher instead of the humourless glibs we’re so often educated by. Justice for MC Devvo.
