Last week, Tool broke their thirteen-year musical silence with their track ‘Fear Inoculum’. The track is a 10-minute-22-second epic — it’s also now the first 10-minute track to crack the Billboard 100.
The song made its debut at No. 93 on this week’s chart, and reached No. 20 on the Mainstream Rock chart. The track has beaten previous record-holder David Bowie, who’s 2016 track ‘Black Star’ clocked in at 9-minutes-57-seconds.
This isn’t the only Tool chart domination we’ve witnessed. Earlier this month, Tool finally caved under the pleas of their fans and released their music on streaming services for the first time ever. This led to complete domination of the North American iTunes charts, with every one of the band’s records hitting the top 10.

Tool are set to release their highly-anticipated fifth studio album, Fear Inoculum, on August 30th. You can pre-order the record here. In a recent interview with Revolver, the band delved into the themes that the new record will explore.
“I feel like this is [about] wisdom through age, through experience,” Frontman Maynard James Keenan explained. “Hopefully through aging you find wisdom in some of the things you’ve encountered. Learning from your mistakes, learning from your successes.
“So if anything is a broad stroke of this album, it would be embracing where we are right now, acknowledging where we’ve come from and some of the things we’ve grown through.”
“Things like, ‘I’m gonna wear socks with sandals. I don’t give a fuck what people think, I’m just gonna be comfortable’,” added Adam Jones. “So it’s about the little things in life.
“It’s making those choices and moving on and growing. There’s a little bit of Frank Herbert’s Dune in that, so I’m into it. I’m so excited for this new record.”
