COTERIE (pronounced coat-e-rie), are a four-piece indie rock band from the windy willows of Perth, Australia, and they’re here to stay in the spotlight.

COTERIE have just released their brand new single ‘Where We Began’, an emotionally and heartfelt ode to a love falling apart. Accompanying the song is an equally as heartstring-pulling video, with black and white action shots of the band, and footage of a couple who share beautiful beginnings and rocky ends. After all, taking it back to where we began is the whole theme of the song, and it’s just as heartbreaking as you’d imagine.

The band have also revealed a September residency in their hometown of Perth, throughout which they will be joined by triple j unearthed artists like Jamilla and Grace Sanders.

Honest and raw, ‘Where We Began’ was written by the band just hours after helping a friend as he struggled to carry the weight of a broken relationship, and the ramifications of it.

The four brothers grew up listening to their parents R&B mixtapes, as well as Stevie Nicks and John Mayer, but the boys also fell in love with the dirty guitars of Jimi Hendrix. Influenced by the likes of Miguel, Prince, Tame Impala and Hozier, COTERIE’S music can be described as a mix of indie, alternative, rock, r&b, and pop.

The video for ‘Where We Began’ is one of heartbreak and a break up and is structured around a young woman’s plea for redemption and forgiveness, and the young man’s inner turmoil processing these apologies. We witness the whirlwind relationship of a more complicated story where no one is to blame.

And all of this is conveyed beautifully by COTERIE’s unique vocal and instrumentation talents, cementing them as ones to watch in the months to come.
