New Zealand’s Lontalius has just offered up one of the most immersive video clips you’ll see all year, dropping the reflective clip for ‘Swim’ today.

Wellington singer, songwriter and producer Eddie Johnston has been on the scene for a number of years now, slowly building steam as his Lontalius project manages to gain recognition from tastemakers around the globe.

Having released a number of stunning productions over the years, Lontalius is now gearing up to share his new album, All I Have, in early October.

Featuring slick instrumentation, powerful vocals, and heartfelt lyrics, tracks like ‘Make My Dreams Come True’ are already on the way to the big time, clocking up 65,000 views on YouTube in a month.

Now, with just under a month to go until the new record drops, we’ve received the video for latest single, ‘Swim’, and it’s one you’ll definitely want to write home about.

Shot near Lontalius’ New Zealand home, the clip makes clever use of mirrors and smart videography, allowing the lyrics to resonate with the listener (and viewer) as a clever play on the topic of self-reflection is realised through a visual medium.

“The video follows me singing the song into a mirror, walking along various locations in my home Wellington, NZ,” Lontalius explained.

“With the song mostly being a dialogue with my own brain – a moment of self reflection, it made sense for me to sing it back to myself.

“This clip was a culmination of a few ideas we’d had in our minds for a while. The picturesque NZ landscape never fails to contrast the emotion in my music.”

Created alongside Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou, Lontalius explains that he’s definitely stumbled upon a winning team when it comes to making videos such as this.

“They’ve done all of my videos as well as a number of other NZ artists,” he explained. “We tend to have similar ideas around what will work, I’m not sure if I could work with anyone else.”

If the video for ‘Swim’ has left you wanting much more, you’re in luck, with Lontalius set to make his Australian debut next month, when he tours the country alongside the mighty Japanese Wallpaper.
