The Amity Affliction are gearing up to celebrate their record Misery with a monolothic tour kicking off this week. The band will be bringing the brashest and brightest names in heavy music, Underoath, Pagan, and Crossfaith, along for the ride.
In the lead up to the tour, we asked Chris from Underoath and Dan from The Amity Affliction to ask each other a bunch of questions on the most important things in life — from hypothetical bands with Donald Trump and dream festivals with dead musicians. Check out what they had to say below.
Chris Dudley asks Dan Brown:
Chris: If you were playing to a crowd who had no idea who you were and only had a 5 song setlist what songs would you play and why?
Dan: Pittsburgh, All fucked Up, Ivy, Death’s Hand, Open Letter. Those songs are probably the best representation of Amity as a band. Heavy, Catchy, and Sad.
Chris: Top 2 things about working with Matt Squire?
Dan: 1) Hearing about the “pop-world” he worked in. Such a different music scene than what many of us are used to.
2) Learning! He has an amazing mind when it comes to songwriting and I just do my best to take in as much as I possibly can.
Chris: You’re programming your own 3-day festival with an unlimited budget. Who are your 3 headliners and why?
Dead musicians! Haha. Nirvana, The Beatles, and Hendrix. They might hate coming back to life just to play my festival, but hey.. it’s my festival!

If you had the choice to move to Beltsville Maryland or stay in Australia, what kind of house would you buy in Beltsville?
Haha! I’d buy an Australian themed amusement house and charge people to visit so that I could afford to fly to Australia constantly. Bloomin’ onion = $69!
What’s gonna be the most insane show of our tour?
They’ll all be insane, but I live in Melbourne so that’s going to be my pick. Melbourne has good aftershow food!

Dan Brown asks Chris Dudley:
Dan: What’s the worst/best part about touring Australia?
Chris: It sounds kinda dumb, but the best part would have to be the shows. Outside of the United States, Australia have the best crowds in the world for us. HOWEVER, the flight over there is *bananas* long. It’s a great time to catch up on movies but man, I wish planes flew faster.
Dan: If President Trump started a band and you had to name it, what would his band be called?
Chris: “Donnie & The Very Stable Geniuses”
Dan: If you had to permanently swap instruments with someone else in your band, who would you choose and why?
Chris: It’s a bit of a cheat, but I would swap with Spencer because live he plays guitar, keyboards, and does vocals so I’d actually be adding instruments and not losing mine. Plus my singing voice currently is garbage, so that’d be cool to have one of those.
Dan: Football, Baseball, or Hockey?
Chris: I’m honestly not much of a sports guy, but the only one of those three I would ever watch alone is hockey. Much faster paced which I dig.
Dan: What’s your favourite city to play in Australia and why?
Chris: Probably Sydney just because it’s one of the most beautiful cities anywhere period. Walking around there it’s just a damn dream.
