Former Anthrax vocalist Dan Nelson, who fronted the band from 2007-2009, has been arrested and charged over an assault incident involving an elderly man.
The 43-year-old vocalist got into an argument with a 74-year-old man at the Aloft New York LaGuardia Airport Hotel in Queens, New York, on August 30th.
As New York Post reports, the musician reportedly punched the man in the face repeatedly and fled the scene before police arrived. It is unclear what triggered the attack. Nelson was at the hotel to perform a gig at the venues performance space that night. One witness claims that Nelson seemed “off”, and was taking a long time to tune his guitar.
The man who was attacked was there to see his friend who was playing the drums that night.
“He just goes bananas,” the witness recalled. “He knocked the old guy down.”
Nelson turned himself over to police at the 115th Precinct at 8 a.m where he was charged with assault, assault with intent to cause physical injury and harassment.
In 2011, Nelson sued Anthrax for $2.65 million. Claiming he was owed profits from the band’s 2011 record, Worship Music. He was also seeking damages, claiming defamation after the band revealed that he has abruptly resigned from vocal duties over illness.
It’s truly a wild ride.
