It’s a sad day for Sydney’s live music scene. Beloved venue Valve Bar has announced that it will be closing its doors on September 30th. In a statement shared on Facebook, the Valve Bar cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the closure.
“I regret to inform you that Valve Bar is ceasing its operation at current address from 30th September 2019. We have tried to do all we can to avoid this, but due to irreconcilable differences in Valve Bar ethos and current operational plan of Agincourt hotel our tenancy had to come to abrupt end,” the statement read.
“We’ve worked over two decades on building the friendliest artist and patron environment and can’t condone inadequate treatment of the community that has supported and nurtured this bar.
It’s not all bad news, the post revealed that organisers have plans to continue Valve’s legacy at another Sydney location in the future.
“This is definitely not the end of the line for a bar with such a long legacy, and we will be opening doors elsewhere in Sydney soon. Thanks for your long standing support, and look forward to many more memorable nights in future.
“We’re still open, absolutely banging weekend in store, feel free to come out and make impressions last!”
Valve Bar has been an underground music institution since it opened its doors back in July 2010. The bar catered to an array of genres, from Dubstep to Punk.

Back in September 2017, the bar sought out crowdfunding to raise $8,000 in an attempt to upgrade the venue.
“Almost every up and comer artist or band can say they’ve played at the Valve Bar in Sydney and it has become the backbone for Sydney’s underground music,” the bar shared at the time. “We want to upgrade the production gear and gig room, and people who support this cause can enjoy an improved quality show from all the independent artists out there.”
