Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love’s former Seattle home is on the market. The four bedroom estate carries a staggering $7,500,000 USD ($11,110,000 AUD) price tag and is being billed as a “once in a lifetime opportunity”.
Cobain and Love shared their last moments inside the home, and it is also the site where the Nirvana frontman’s body was discovered in 1994. The couple purchased the house in January 1994 for $1.485 million and in 1997, Love sold it for $2.895 million. It is not known who owned the 117-year-old home in the interim.
No interior shots of the house are available, but it comes with a beautiful backyard and views of Lake Washington. The home sits on a 3/4 acre block, and along with its four bedrooms, boasts four bathrooms and a wine cellar.
It is not yet known whether the property has attracted interest from private or commercial buyers. However, Charles R. Cross, author of the definitive Kurt Cobain biography, Heavier Than Heaven, has another idea for the property.
In a Facebook post, Cross proposed that the City of Seattle “redevelops this property as an actual official enlarged park, with an appropriate marker as a way to honour a musician who forever is going to be connected to Seattle”.
A big year for Nirvana fans
2019 marks 25 years since Cobain passed away from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Tributes flowed in on April 5th, as fans remembered a man who revolutionised the alternative music scene.

It has been a big year for Nirvana fans, with the recent announcement that their MTV Unplugged album will be re-issued on vinyl later this year. The re-issue, which is set for a November 1st release, celebrates the 25th anniversary of the original album.
The news comes just weeks after the release of Live and Loud, a recording of Nirvana’s 1994 Seattle MTV performance. A video recording of the concert was put out in 2013, but 2019 marks its first vinyl release.
