On Sunday, a monumental music parade paying tribute to late AC/DC frontman Bon Scott took place in Perth. Canning Highway was closed from Applecross to Fremantle, and 150,000 people flocked to celebrate the legacy of one of Australia’s most iconic rockers.
The event, dubbed ‘Highway to Hell’, marked forty years since Bon Scott’s ashes were scattered in Fremantle Cemetery. The parade saw eight bands —including Amyl and the Sniffers, Odette Mercy and Pigram Brothers. End of Fashion, Mojo Juju and the Jam Tarts — and the Perth Symphony Orchestra transform the 10-kilometre strip into a joyous celebration of AC/DC’s hair-raising back-catalogue.
Before the event kicked off, organisers executed a record-breaking air guitar display. led by Australian air guitar champion Alex Roberts — or ‘Jinja Assasin’ — over 3,500 people joined forces in a rip-roaring performance of ‘Highway To Hell’. We’re thrilled to report that their efforts were a success, and Perth Festival can now claim the title of world’s ‘biggest air guitar gathering’. In related news, Twisted Sister’s Dee Snider recently revealed that the forthcoming AC/DC record will feature a bounty of surprises from late guitarist Malcolm Young.
In an interview with SiriusXM, Snider revealed that he previously had dinner with AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson, where the pair discussed the bands plans for 2020.
“He told me a lot of stuff, and a lot of stuff that I don’t wanna say,” Dee revealed.
“But we know from the photos, and Brian confirmed it, they’ve been in the studio, they’ve been recording. The original – I don’t say the ‘original’ guys, because a lot of ’em are gone, but I say the ‘classic’ line-up is back together and there are some surprises, which I can’t talk about, regarding Malcolm Young that just had my jaw on the floor. I will say he will be present. So this is AC/DC as we know and love them.
