As numerous music and social events across the globe face postponement or cancellation due to the threat of coronavirus, Splendour In The Grass has just announced the postponement of their 2020 event.

This year was set to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Splendour In The Grass. With The Strokes, Flume, Tyler, The Creator, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and many more fantastic acts set to alight North Byron Parklands for a celebration of monolithic proportions.

However, organisers have had to pull the plug on the scheduled July event, moving it to the weekend of October 24th. Which, to be honest sounds kind of nice. As someone who doesn’t fare well with cold weather at all, I will be fully embracing this transition to a spring Splendour.

“In response to the Federal government’s ban on public gatherings in excess of 500 pax and in these unpredictable times, in an effort to ensure a safe Splendour in the Grass experience, we will reschedule the 20th-anniversary edition to the new dates in October,” the festival shared in a statement.

All tickets purchased for the original Splendour dates will be valid for these news dates. Ticket holders who will not be able to attend the festival will be eligible for a refund.

The festival has confirmed that headliners Flume, The Strokes and Tyler, The Creator will all be fulfilling their commitments. They’ve also assured punters that most other acts on the bill have done the same.

Splendour In The Grass joins a myriad of other festivals and events that have been cancelled or postponed as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. SXSW, and Download Festival were both set to cancel their scheduled events and Coachella and Under the Southern Stars were forced to postpone to a later date.

Live Nation, AEG and a bunch of other leading promoters have also pulled all large tours scheduled for the month of March.
