Queen guitarist Brian May has revealed he “can’t walk or sleep” after he tore his gluteus maximus muscle during a session of “over-enthusiastic gardening”.

Proving that 2020 just continues to get weirder, May detailed his unfortunate accident to Queen fans over Instagram alongside a snap that showed him wearing a mask, after assuring them he wasn’t in hospital for coronavirus.

“Reality check ! For me. No – the Virus didn’t get me yet – thank God. Hope you’re all keeping extra-safe out there,” he said in the caption.

“I managed to rip my gluteus maximus to shreds in a moment of over-enthusiastic gardening,” he continued, as we desperately ponder how the hell one manages to do that while gardening.

“So suddenly I find myself in a hospital getting scanned to find out exactly how much I’ve actually damaged myself. Turns out I did a thorough job – this is a couple of days ago – and I won’t be able to walk for a while … or sleep, without a lot of assistance, because the pain is relentless,” May continued.

He concluded by telling fans he would be taking a break from social media as he recovered, saying, “please don’t send me sympathy – I just need some healing silence for a while.”

The bizarre incident comes following May shutting down rumours of Bohemian Rhapsody sequel earleir this week, telling Rolling Stone: “Don’t think [Queen] didn’t think about it.”

He continued, “We’ve talked. Basically we think, not at the moment. Things could change, I suppose, but I think it would be difficult,” he said, adding that his marriage breakdown and late Queen frontman Freddie Mercury’s declining health at the time wouldn’t have made for pleasant viewing.

“I don’t think [making a film about those years] would be an uplifting thing to do. I’m not saying it’s impossible because there is a great story there, but we don’t feel that’s the story we want to tell at the moment.”
