Sir Rod Stewart has certainly had a storied career to date, and now the British rock icon has revealed who he’d like to play him if a biopic was ever made about his life.
Musical biopics like Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocketman – which tell the story of fellow British acts Queen and Elton John respectively – have been massively successful in recent years. Chatting with BBC Radio 2 host Steve Wright, Stewart was put on the spot.
Wright brought up the topic by giving his own suggestion, that Rhys Ifans could pull off the role of Sir Rod. Ifans is best known for his roles in Notting Hill, The Amazing Spider-Man and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1. The actor also previously dated Stewart’s daughter, Kimberley.
“I was thinking the other day about who would play you in a movie,” said Wright. “Now obviously, you could play yourself now, but who would play you as a younger man? I would be thinking of Rhys Ifans.”
Stewart agreed; “Rhys would be a very good idea. [But] he has got to do something with his barnett.” Barnett being a cockney slang for hair.
The legendary singer then gave his own suggestion, putting forth the idea that his son Alistair could potentially be involved because they have “remarkable similarity” in how they look.
Stewart isn’t getting hung up on the idea though, giving a more philosophical standpoint on whether he’ll ever get a biopic. “If it does not happen it does not matter but I would be flattered if it did. But I tell you what, the Freddie Mercury one was so good.

“It was rock and roll. It would be hard to get something better than that but I would give it a shot.”
The 75-year-old also gave an update on his health during the interview, admitting that he is “slightly more at risk” of catching the coronavirus due to the fact that he’s previously had prostate cancer.
“I’ll tell you what, I’m fit. I work out three or four times a week. I’ve very fortunate because down where we live I have an indoor pool and a wonderful gym so,” he said.
