This past month has been a big one for Tasmania’s Runaway Belles, who have today released the music video for their debut single, ‘The Weekend’.
Released earlier this month, ‘The Weekend’ is the first single that fans have heard of the Tasmanian duo, which is made up of the impeccable talents of Tash Parker and Emma Anglesey.
Best friends and housemates, Runaway Belles offer up some gorgeous vocals and stunning harmonies, which combine to create a mesmerising mix of tender, indie-folk.
“This song is about that person who you can’t help but be in love with despite knowing it’s never going to work out in the end,” Tash explains of the track, which was self-produced alongside Lachlan Carrick (Sia, Lior), Becki Whitton (Tash Sultana, Huntly) and Josh Barber (Gretta Ray).
While the piano, cello, and guitars were recorded in Wally DeBacker’s (AKA Gotye) studio just outside of Melbourne, the vocals were laid down in an 1800s bluestone cottage on the edge of Tasmania’s wilderness; a fitting location for such a naturally beautiful track.
“When we recorded this song we imagined we were sitting around a campfire in a forest with a guitar telling the story,” Emma explains. “We wanted to capture that intimacy in the verses.
“In contrast, in the choruses we imagined our voices and music carrying out into the expansive night sky and beautiful surrounding mountains – much like a weekend camping trip where you can forget about the troubles of the week, and with everything that’s going on in the world right now it feels like a good time to be sharing new music and connecting with people.”

Now, the pair have shared the breathtaking video for the track, featuring contributions from Jack Stafford (@re._stacks), Michael Roberts (@nomousego), and of course Tash Parker and Emma Anglesey themselves.
Featuring nostalgic footage of the pair playing music, interspersed with clips of travelling along the road, the video provides an insight into the touching world that ‘The Weekend’ offers up, while harking back to memories of the past we can all reminisce with.
