Former Misfits drummer Joey Image has passed away. He was 63.

His death was confirmed by The New York Hardcore Chronicles, who shared the news on Facebook, writing, “Joey Image of The Misfits dead at 63. Rest in Peace.”

Image was diagnosed with liver cancer in 2016, and was seeking treatment at University of Miami. A GoFundMe Page set up to raise funds for the late drummer confirms: “Last year, Joey was diagnosed with liver cancer. He’s seeking treatment at the University of Miami, and is possibly a candidate for liver transplant.

“These procedures are incredibly expensive and often have devastating side effects. Joey is currently driving for a living, but is uncertain whether or not he’ll be able to continue this line of work once his treatment begins.”

Image played with Misfits between 1978 and 1980. He performed on the band’s 1979 Horror Business EP, 1980 Beware EP and single ‘Night of the Living Dead’. He also contributed to the seminal compilation record, Legacy of Brutality.

Image reunited with the band for a one-off performance in 2000 at the Culture Room in Fort Lauderdale, Florida — replacing the band’s then-drummer Dr. Chud after he left without notice.

Following his departure from Misfits in 1979, Image went on to play in a slew of bands like Whorelords, Human Buffet, Psycho Daisies, the Mary Tyler Whores, the Strap-Ons, the Bell Ringers, Evil Doers, the Hooples, Jersey Trash and the Hollywood 77’s.

Between 2000 and 2002 he played with East Village Horror punk band, The Undead.
