Members of metal outfits Anthrax, Volbeat and Suicidal Tendencies have teamed up with Run-DMC’s Darryl ‘DMC’ McDaniels to perform for charity.
The unlikely four-piece uploaded a mash-up of Run-DMC hits yesterday, aiming to raise funds for non-profit organisation Music Unites.
The song features DMC, as well as Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante. Rounding out the line-up are former Anthrax/Volbeat guitarist Rob Caggiano and Suicidal Tendencies bassist Ra Diaz. The four-piece performed from their respective homes in an effort to restrict the spread of coronavirus.
It was Benante who first had the idea to perform a Run-DMC mash-up. He has dubbed the track ‘CB’s RUNDMC JAM’.
“I always wanted to do a medley of RUN-DMC songs so back in March I decided to put an arrangement together and asked these amazing people to be a part of it,” he revealed.
“I have been a RUN-DMC fan from back when I first heard ‘It’s Like That/Sucker MCs’…they had my attention immediately!”
In the description of the YouTube video, Benante confirmed the popular theory that Anthrax’s ‘I’m the Man’ was inspired by Run-DMC and The Beastie Boys’ music.

“That’s how much we loved them,” he said.
The video aims to raise money for Music Unites, a charity which supports music education around the world. Benante hopes that their mash-up encourages others to pick up their instruments and play.
“Maybe it inspires you to make music, play your instrument, write lyrics,” he said.
It isn’t the first time Charlie Benante has roped in his mates to perform a socially-distanced cover version this year. Benante has been frequently teaming up with Testament’s Alex Skolnick and bassist Ra Diaz to perform Rush covers from isolation.
