6ix9ine has released his third single since getting out of prison in April. It’s called ‘Yaya’ and it’s performed entirely in Spanish.
‘Yaya’ is a stylistic departure, too. The track seems intent on cashing in on the surge in popularity for reggaeton, urbano and latin trap music. This trend has seen the likes of J Balvin and Ozuna make a serious impression on the US charts in recent years, building on the foundation set by artists like Daddy Yankee.
It’s fair to say 6ix9ine is feeling satisfied with the latest single. “MI GENTE LATINA LOS AMO SOY LATINO Y SIN USTEDES NO SOY NADA LOS AMOOOOOO,” he wrote on Instagram. This roughly translates to: “I love you latin people. I am latin and without you I am nothing. I love you.”
The official music video for ‘Yaya’ had racked up close to seven million YouTube views within hours of its premiere. It’s a typically hyper-coloured affair, with 6ix9ine surrounded by many enthusiastically twerking women.
6ix9ine has had a busy few months since being released from prison in April. His comeback single ‘GOOBA’ came out on May 8th and debuted at number three in the US Billboard Hot 100. It has since been certified Platinum.
His next single, ‘TROLLZ’, arrived on June 12th and featured a guest verse from Nicki Minaj. The song’s blindingly colourful music video enjoyed the biggest 24 hour debut for a hip-hop video in YouTube history, breaking the record previously set yby ‘GOOBA’.
6ix9ine was released from prison approximately four months ahead of schedule and remains under house arrest. He was imprisoned in December 2019 after pleading guilty to nine charges including armed robbery and conspiracy to murder, but let out early on account of his asthma and the dangers posed by COVID-19.

‘Yaya’ will be 6ix9ine’s final release during house arrest. “Just picture this right: I’ve been on house arrest. I broke a whole bunch of records,” he said in a recent big-up Instagram video. “Since I’ve been home, the first song out of jail, Platinum. I have the number one record in the world from house arrest. I’ve been shooting all the music videos in my living room.”
