Kasabian have announced the departure of singer Tom Meighan after he had been struggling with “personal issues”.
In a statement posted to Twitter, the band revealed that Meighan wanted to “concentrate all his energies on getting his life back on track”.
The statement read: “Tom Meighan is stepping down from Kasabian by mutual consent. Tom has struggled with personal issues that have affected his behaviour for quite some time and now wants to concentrate all his energies on getting his life back on track. We will not be commenting further.”
A few hours after the announcement, the 39-year-old tweeted to assure fans that he was “doing well”.
“Following today’s announcement I just wanted to let you all know that I am doing well. I’m in a really good place now. Thanks for all your love and support,” Meighan wrote. “I’ll be seeing you all very soon.”
It comes following Meighan talking to Sky News in June, in which said that Kasabian had been planning their seventh album, but COVID-19 had delayed its release.
“I’m writing loads of music at the minute,” he said of having extra time amid the lockdown. “We’ll see what happens. I’ve got a few cookies in the jar… and they’re not bad, you know.

“It’s very autobiographical, like the story of my life. It’s kind of… heartbreaking. Well, not heartbreaking, just to the core, you know. Very real.”
Meighan continued, “And you know when Sergio did his thing last year, everyone was like, ‘how do you feel about it?’ I love it.
“Why wouldn’t I? And his music was incredible… He’s doing his thing, I’m doing mine, but Kasabian are still solid. You know, it’s just a bad time at the moment, for rock ‘n’ roll. For human beings in general.”
The former Kasabian singer also said at the time that he was “logging my life, like a diary.”
“And I was like, these songs ain’t bad, really. I think they’re alright. We’ll see what happens.”
