Noel Gallagher has reminisced on the early days of Oasis career, and the lacklustre response they got from U.S. audiences when the band were on the road touring their seminal record (What’s The Story) Morning Glory.
The stalwart rocker recently chewed the fat in a reflective interview with The Times, an interview that saw Gallagher reflect on the recording process of the 1995 record, and the unimpressed crowds that the band played to in America.
“I remember looking out at this row of sheep,” Gallagher said. “And they were staring blankly at me while I was singing, and they didn’t look very impressed. It certainly prepared me for audiences in America.”
Noel delved into how Liam and his drinking antics proved to be a detriment to the band during the recording process at Rockfield.
“Drinking can wait. You’re trying to follow up ‘Definitely Maybe’, you’ve just written ‘Champagne Supernova’ and ‘Wonderwall’, and you can feel it, you know it’s your time, this is important,” Gallagher shared. “Then Liam brought back a load of fucking idiots from the pub and they’re wandering around, fiddling with guitars and listening to songs nobody had heard yet. I said to Liam, ‘Get these idiots out of here.’ Of course, he wouldn’t, so chaos ensued.”
Last month, Noel Gallagher made an appearance on Matt Morgan’s Funny How? podcast, where he revealed that he lost the lyric book after the band were thrown out of a hotel in Manchester.
“I did lose a load of lyrics early on in Oasis,” he said. “We got slung out of a hotel in Manchester – The Britannia, The Midland…one of those – by the police and a lyric book went missing.”
