The Strokes are back with a new animated video for ‘Ode To The Mets’.

The Strokes’ longtime collaborator Warren Fu is behind the visuals. Apparently, it all stems from a conversation he and frontman Julian Casablancas had about the introduction to well-known sitcom Cheers. Oh what we’d give to have been a fly on the wall during that chat!
Fu engaged eight different artists for the clip, with each one animating a different chapter of the video. The whole thing is a psychedelic time-travel acid trip that takes us from the prehistoric era to a futuristic and underwater New York city.
Eagle-eyed baseball fans will also find a lot of Easter eggs relating to the New York Mets throughout. For example, there’s a banner that reads ‘Class of ’69’ — a reference to the Mets’ famous World Series win over the Baltimore Orioles that year. There’s also an early photo of the band from guitarist Nick Valensi’s own collection.
The Strokes have been generous to their fans during lockdown. Their Zoom-hosted talk show Five Guys Talking About Things They Know Nothing About has been an early quarantine-core success.
NME reports that a new episode of the show — called Meet The Producers — is the first in a series that sees the band speak with the producers behind their music. This episode features Gordon Raphel, a longtime collaborator of the band. He produced their debut EP The Modern Age and their first two LPs Is This It and Room On Fire.

Earlier this month, Splendour in the Grass revealed their 2021 headliners. The Strokes join Gorillaz and Tyler, the Creator at the top of the bill for the Wooyung event, which returns in July next year.
