It may have come 20-years too late, but Hoobastank frontman Doug Robb has finally apologised for naming his band Hoobastank.

The band — who, we’re happy to report, are still active — used their debut TikTok post as an opportunity to apologise for the borderline hate crime that is their name.

The video see’s Robb staring in bewilderment at a framed platinum Hoobastank album, whilst the band’s most beloved hit ‘The Reason’, hauntingly echoes in the background. “I’m not a perfect person,” he lip-syncs in the video. “Realizing 20 years later that you named your band Hoobastank.”

If Hoob are going down, they’re going down with company. The band took the apology as an opportunity to remind the general public of a number of band’s that also bear questionable names. Notably calling out Jamiroquai and Chumbawumba — two band names that are, admittedly, ridiculous, but no way near as bad as Hoobastank.

There are also a litany of band names so much worse than those targeted by Hoob.. Pearl Jam? Monkey Grip? The Flaming Lips? Why target innocuous UK dance legends Jamiriquoi, or the working class heroes Chumbawamba? They’re just trying to bring the vibes.

Hoobastank released their sixth studio album, Push Pull, in 2018. This year, the band are set to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their debut, self-titled record. Details about how the band plan to commemorate such a momentous occasion have been kept under wraps, but we’ll make sure to keep our ear to the ground for any forthcoming Hoob updates.
