BLACKPINK’s debut music video, ‘BOOMBAYAH’, just crossed 1 billion views on YouTube, becoming the first K-pop debut music video to do so.

At this point, BLACKPINK must be used to breaking records. In fact, every year marks a new milestone for the quartet. 2021, similarly, has started on an equally high note for the act.

BLACKPINK’s debut music video, ‘BOOMBAYAH’, is now the first K-pop debut music video to cross the 1 billion mark. As of today, the video rests at 1.1 billion views after almost 4 years of release. To date, BLACKPINK are the only K-pop act to have three music videos sitting above the 1 billion mark.

In 2019, their track ‘Ddu-Du-Ddu-Du’ became their first music video to breach the 1 billion view barrier. It was also the first and fastest music video by a K-pop group to do so, and is currently also the most watched K-pop music video on the planet.

‘Ddu-Du-Ddu-Du’s successor, ‘Kill This Love’ also had a similar trajectory. In November 2020, the track became the quartet’s second music video to hit 1.1 billion views.

And of course, 2020 will go down as a historical year for what is often called the biggest girl group in the world. In June 2020, after almost a two-year hiatus, BLACKPINK made an explosive comeback with ‘How You Like That’.

Within 24 hours, ‘How You Like That’ had become the most viewed music video on YouTube. It is also the fastest music video to reach 100 million views, and is one of the most-liked videos on the platform.
